Statement on the UN Resident Coordinator's meeting with H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena
The United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka, Ms. Hanaa Singer called on H.E. Maithripala Sirisena today.
She reiterated the UN Secretary-General’s message that the UN is following the developments in Sri Lanka very closely, and on the need to safeguard democratic values, uphold the rule of law, and ensure the safety and security of all Sri Lankans.
She emphasized the important steps that Sri Lanka has taken towards fulfilling international commitments including the UN Human Rights Council Resolution. She further expressed the importance of maintaining progress in fulfilling these commitments and that the United Nations stands ready to continue its cooperation and support in this regard.
